Shaffer Commission Special PT1
When Marijuana was brought under the then new controlled Substances Act in 1970 it was placed din Schedule I (where it remains today) but it was done so as a temporary measure. A Presidential commission was ordered to form and investigate the topic of marijuana across the country. Ultimately a very pragmatic commission reported back to President Nixon that marijuana should be decriminalized. On the 35th anniversary of that report I interviewed member of the Commission and gained exclusive access from the University of Virginia to never-before-broadcast audio tapes featuring Nixon on discussing the Report.
